NCIC Urges Surveyors to uphold Professionalism in the Construction Industry

Mangochi, Malawi – July 10, 2025 – The National Construction Industry Council (NCIC) has called on all physical planners and quantity surveyors operating in Malawi to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct in discharging their duties.

Presenting during the annual conference for surveyors at Nkopola in Mangochi, Acting Senior Industry Liaison Officer for the South, Eng. Harrison Banda emphasized that surveyors play a critical role in ensuring quality, accuracy, and transparency in infrastructure development.

“Surveyors are at the heart of every construction project. Their work determines the value, boundaries, and integrity of construction activities. We therefore urge all practitioners to adhere to codes of conduct and avoid practices that compromise standards,” the Eng. Banda said.

The Council expressed concern over rising cases of fronting in which local companies’ names are ‘used’ on projects which undermine the Council’s capacity building efforts and contravenes codes of ethics. The Council therefore warned that any surveyors found flouting regulations would face disciplinary action, including possible suspension or deregistration.

NCIC is works closely with professional bodies such as the Surveyors Institute of Malawi (SIM) to promote capacity building, certification, and compliance monitoring.
