NCIC successfully conducts Project Management Professional (PMP) training for 27 professionals

The National Construction Industry Council (NCIC) has successfully conducted a five-day Project Management Professional (PMP) training in Salima, aimed at equipping construction industry professionals with globally recognized project management skills and best practices.

The training, which drew participants from across the country, was held from 25th to 29th September and focused on enhancing participants’ capabilities in planning, executing, and managing construction projects in line with international standards. It forms part of NCIC’s continued commitment to improving the professionalism and performance of Malawi’s construction sector.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, NCIC Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Gerald Khonje, highlighted the importance of capacity building in driving quality and sustainable infrastructure development in Malawi.

“Project management is at the heart of successful construction delivery. By empowering our professionals with PMP training, we are strengthening the foundation of the industry and aligning ourselves with global practices. In fact, this is a mind changing training that all serious professionals need to undergo”, said the CEO.

Participants received intensive training covering key areas of the PMP framework, including project integration, scope, time, cost, quality, risk, procurement, communication, and stakeholder management. The program was facilitated by certified PMP trainers with extensive experience in both local and international project environments, led by Dr. Laban Mwasa who flew in all the way from the Czech Republic.

One of the participants, PrEng. Faith Mzandu, described the training as “transformative and practical,” adding that the knowledge gained would significantly improve how projects are managed on the ground.

“This training has broadened my understanding of structured project execution and will help in minimizing cost overruns and project delays,” said Mzandu.

NCIC actively promotes professional development through workshops, training programs, and certification support, through its Training and Research Directorate, with the ultimate goal of fostering a quality driven and sustainable construction industry in Malawi.

Similar training will be made available in 2026, and the Council reiterated its commitment to supporting professionals pursuing PMP certification.
