
Construction industry players take their celebration through the streets of Lilongwe
The National Construction Industry Council (NCIC) on 19th May 2025 in Lilongwe organized a parade prior to its inaugural national construction day which was set for May 20th to commemorate the construction industry’s contributions to the country. The commemoration has been themed “Quality Driven Construction Industry: Building for Generations,” encouraging the construction industry works to focus on quality infrastructure that will help the present and future generations.
The parade which was decorated by the Malawi Defense Force Music Band took place from the ongoing re-constructed Lilongwe Bridge through Paul Kagama road to the Bingu International Conventional Centre (BICC) featuring different construction, manufacturing, transportation companies and together with other entities like the Standard Bank. The parade showcased construction equipment such as Construction Vehicles and Machinery, Placards and Banners that carried messages emphasizing on importance of quality infrastructure for both the present and future generations.
Upon arrival at the BICC, NCIC CEO, Eng. Gerald Khonje delivered brief remarks, expressing gratitude to all participants in the parade for their support and active involvement. He extended special appreciation to Standard Bank for taking part by sponsoring the event. The CEO urged all stakeholders and industry players to attend the official inaugural ceremony the following day which would be graced by the President of Malawi, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and Vice President Dr. Michael Bizwick Usi. He also highlighted that the president will tour various exhibitions and pavilions set up by the present industry players and supporters. Eng. Khonje concluded by emphasizing his appreciation for the day’s success and the collective commitment shown towards building a resilient construction sector for Malawi.
