As one way of supporting efforts in protecting and conserving the environment, the National Construction Industry Council (NCIC) supported communities in Ntchisi, Balaka and Karonga districts with 8, 000 tree seedlings of various species which have since been planted across in the respective districts.

Balaka and Karonga got 2, 000 seedlings each with Ntchisi getting 4, 000 seedlings.

NCIC’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Eng. Gerald T. Khonje, led a team of NCIC officers to Ntchisi on 28th January 2022 where they planted trees in Thavu Village, Traditional Authority (TA) Kalumo in the district. The team was joined by the Ntchisi District Forestry Officials, traditional leaders and members of the community.

In his address after the tree planting ceremony, Eng. Khonje enouraged the communities around Thavu village to ensure that they look after the trees to ensure that they survive and eventually grow into a forest cover.

The NCIC Senior Industry Liaison Officers (SILOs) for the North and South, led NCIC officers during similar tree planting exercises in Karonga and Balaka, respectively.
