Eng. Gerald Thomson Khonje is a Registered Professional Civil Engineer and an Internationally Certified (PRINCE 2 Practitioner) Project Manager and has an MBA in Management Consultancy from the University of Wales, BSc Civil Engineering from the University of Malawi Polytechnic. Eng. Khonje has over 20 years working experience with different organizations, including contractors, consultants and regulatory institutions working on various types of projects including water, roads and housing.
As Regulation and Enforcement Director for the National Construction Industry Council of Malawi (NCIC) he has successfully initiated, coordinated and implemented various interventions aimed at creating an enabling environment for the development and operation of the construction industry in Malawi including: the development of the National Construction Policy and the 2012-2017 Strategic Plan; he was also in the consultancy team that established the training unit within NCIC and was one of its two pioneering Trainers .
He has also developed a number of procedures and regulations including NCIC Arbitration Rules, Complaints Handling and Disciplinary Procedures, Procedures for Registration of Persons Engaged in the Construction Industry, Project Registration Regulations, Joint Venture and Sub Contracting Regulations, Performance Assessment Scheme, Codes of Ethics for Contractors, Code of Ethics for Consultants and Code of Ethics for All Parties engaged in the Construction Industry and has chaired a number of committees and forums and made presentations at various workshops locally and internationally.
He has also collaborated with various Professional Boards and Associations in development of various interventions for their effective operations and development. He is also a Board Member of the Ministry of Hope a Non-Governmental Organization that works for the interests of the disadvantaged children and bringing hope to the hopeless where he also chairs the projects committee of the Board.
Nema is an innovative person with a vision to bring change for the good. She believes in transformation of visions to reality through strategic problem solving; innovation and change management.
She graduated from Mzuzu University in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying(Upper Second class).She farther undertook a Master of Science in International Project Management program at Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland .
She has done extensive research in the field of “Project Feasibility”. She also has a certificate in GIS (Geographical Information Systems).
She has a number of skills that she can appropriately apply in the field of construction and project management. She is an expert in GIS and Primavera.
Nema has worked as a Senior Estates Management Officer for Department Lands and Zomba City council. She has also worked as Acting Regional Commissioner for Lands (N).
In 2014, she was entrusted to lead the women in profession (construction and land management) northern chapter.
Nema is currently working as a Training and Research Director for National Construction Industry Council.
