PRESS RELEASE
PRACTICE OF CONSULTING FIRMS IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY AND CLASSIFICATION
The National Construction Industry Council was established by the National Construction Industry Act of 1996 (Cap. 53:05 of the Laws of Malawi) to regulate, develop and promote the Construction Industry in Malawi. The Council has the mandate to register and maintain a register for each category of persons engaged in the construction industry. The Council also has the mandate to prescribe and vary categories of registration of persons engaged in the construction industry as well as conditions under which they can operate.
The Council would like to notify Consultants, Clients, Stakeholders and Members of the General Public that grading of Consultants according to Class A, B and C has been abolished with immediate effect. This implies that classification of consulting firms in the Construction Industry will be based only on their profession and area of specialisation as determined by their professional registration.
Be further reminded that Consultants will only be allowed to register and practice in the prescribed areas and will not be allowed to trespass or encroach into fields outside their profession, area of specialisation or expertise. It is therefore illegal to award or accept assignments that are outside one’s area of registration, specialisation or expertise hence those engaged in such risk disciplinary action.
The general public and stakeholders are further reminded to verify with the National Construction Industry Council, the registration status of any company they wish to engage in the construction industry.
