The National Construction Industry Council (NCIC) in collaboration with Soche Technical College, has graduated students who have successfully completed the Certificate in Construction Management. The graduation ceremony took place on Monday, February 24 2024 at Blantyre NCIC office marking the fifth cohort of graduates trained through the partnership.
In a speech delivered by the graduating students’ representative, the graduates expressed gratitude to their instructors for their guidance and support throughout the program. The representative emphasized the students’ commitment to applying their newly acquired skills to contribute to the growth and development of Malawi’s construction industry.
Soche Technical College Principal, Mr Grayston Mabveka highlighted the significance of construction management in achieving Malawi’s Agenda 2063 goals saying the training provided has equipped the graduates with essential skills to enhance the construction sector and drive national development. He encouraged the graduates to maintain their dedication and hard-working spirit as they transition into their professional careers.
NCIC’s Training and Research Director, Mrs Nema Kadaluka congratulated the graduates for balancing their studies with family and professional responsibilities. She reaffirmed the council’s commitment to promoting gender equality within the construction industry, celebrating the presence of women among the graduates. Mrs Kadaluka reiterated NCIC’s role as to regulate, promote and develop the construction industry, ensuring it becomes sustainable and quality driven.
Eng. Dr Witness Kuotcha, lecturer at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences who also happens to be a member of the NCIC board, highlighted the importance of having a dedicated, skilled, empowered and equipped industry players to ensure sustainable growth within the sector. He encouraged the graduates to continue enhancing their skills and consider enrolling in the Diploma in Construction Management program which was also initiated by NCIC to further advance their skills and expertise in this evolving industry. He further emphasized NCIC’s strategic focus on capacity building and certification to foster a vibrant construction industry.
NCIC further highlighted its committed to working hand in hand with government, private sector and different stakeholders to provide high quality training and capacity building programs hence the reason for collaborating with different colleges to continue providing the programs. It was also announced that the next cohort for the Certificate in Construction Management program will commence in the first week of April at both Lilongwe and Soche Technical College campuses.
