The National Construction Industry Council has been hailed by stakeholders for a resounding success of the 7th International Construction Conference held in Mangochi, Malawi from the 7th to 9th of August 2024 under the inspiring theme, “Innovate, Adapt, Excel: Navigating the Future of a Quality-Driven Construction Industry.” The Minister of Transport and Public Works, Honourable Jacob Hara, MP presided over the function and urged participants to explore ways that will ensure that Malawi effectively embark on meaningful import substitution, be able to quantity industry’s contribution to the job market and offer alternative and more efficient project financing avenues.

The conference brought together a diverse array of industry leaders, experts, and innovators from Malawi, Zambia, Uganda, Tanzania and the United Kingdom, all united by a common commitment to advancing the construction industry through innovation, adaptability, and excellence. Over the course of several engaging sessions and workshops, participants explored cutting-edge technologies, sustainable practices, and strategic approaches that will shape the future of construction.

The conference proceedings centered on sharing and taking stock of current best practices for construction excellence; adoption of resilient and inclusive strategies in infrastructure development; exploration of innovative ways of enhancing local production and uptake of construction materials; enhancing of skills development and capacity building in the industry; consideration of capacity building issues, quality and standardization for the industry; and consideration of ways of harnessing the formal and the informal sectors in the Construction Industry. The gathering further discussed the importance of embracing new technologies and methodologies to address the challenges of a rapidly evolving industry. The emphasis on quality-driven practices underscored the industry’s collective goal of not only meeting but exceeding industry standards, ensuring that every project is completed with the highest level of excellence.
